Dr. Manmohan Singh’s Visit to China will Mark a New Phase in Bilateral Relations

The prime minister of India, Mr. Manmohan Singh’s visit to China is of strategic importance to the world order. In his forthcoming visit, the primary aim is to collaborate in various sectors with China with an intention of improving bilateral ties. The recent incursions by the Chinese army in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh in spite of their dilution of differences in 2005 accord, is the only deterrent which both the parties have to iron out in the forthcoming visit.

China and India will sign five agreements in the fields of housing, geo-sciences, land resource management and traditional medicine besides MOU’s between the two state-run railway organizations. China is bound to benefit more from these pacts because with this concrete action, they can break the mental blocks of Indian investors towards China due to their autocratic regime. Further if China could find a solution for the 38,000 square kilometers which it occupies that of Indian Territory it can certainly gain more acceptability and access to Indian markets. Surprisingly, the land that occupied by China is only of Psychological importance.

India’s quest for joining the elite group of the UN with veto power is also expected to get a boost through this visit. Foreign Minister Pranab Mukerjee downplayed the huge expectations laid on the visit by stating that it would be too much if one is going to believe that we would be able to find solution for all the long pending issues. But analysts believe, that these statements by the minister, is to avoid pre-judgments which could otherwise sabotage the purpose of the visit. Through this visit India reposes complete faith on Mr. Manmohan Singh who has the best credentials as a prime minister or otherwise.
