In the last 77 years of World Cup history, India has never been able to make it to the final stage. But in the forthcoming World cup to be held in South Africa in 2010, India’s presence will be felt through information technology services provided by Satyam Computers. India’s information technology giant Satyam has signed an agreement on 24th Nov 2007 with FIFA, football’s world governing body ,to provide information technology services for 2010 World cup, 2014 world cup in Brazil with the Confederation Cup in each cycle being part of the deal.
B.Ramalinga Raju founded Satyam Computers in the year 1987 and has captained the firm eversince. He came to limelight during the time of IT revolution in India. Though he was instrumental in shaping e-governance a reality in India, he was always overshadowed by other bigwigs in IT industry. Satyam’s deal with FIFA will undoubtedly bestow due share of fame to him in the coming years.
There is a belief, if a country’s GDP growth increases the chances of making it to the World Cup final is also high. India’s GDP growth being pegged at 10% she can hope for cracking in to the big league in near future. India is traditionally a cricketing nation, but even if it enters the final phase of the football World Cup through qualifying rounds, it will be equated to 1983 cricket World Cup victory. Kudos to Ramalinga Raju and Satyam for making it happen for India to the World Cup, some way or the other.
